The Fairfield Jazz band will host their first ever Jazz feature concert with special guests Dwane Pugh and FHS Alumni Janette Gibson in the Auditorium this Friday starting at 7 P.M..
“Jazz band has mostly been a positive and fun experience for me, the music is extremely enjoyable and Mr. Holland has always been open to new Jazz arrangements,” junior Daniel Bonner said. “Going to concerts, events, and competition has never been disappointing and I’m always waiting for Jazz throughout the day.”
Out of all of the music students taught in Fairfield, only a few will pursue musicianship as a career. Janette Gibson was one of those students and has seen success in Houston then the DFW area. She specializes in moving around and interacting with the audience when she is playing.
“Professionals joining us at the concert is kind of nerve wracking,” sophomore Aaryn Morgan said. “This will hopefully benefit us in ways where more people would take into consideration the jazz band.”
Previously, the Jazz band concert for both Christmas and Spring took place on the same night as those of the sixth and seventh grades. Recently, however, the concert changed to take place independently.
“The Jazz band has had amazing growth recently, especially with our huge success at All Region,” junior Saxophonist Anderson Cruce said. “I think the opportunity is a great way to share our success with the community and promote the Jazz band as more than a small group of amateurs.”
With a large group of seniors graduating this year, the jazz band hopes to recruit more talented musicians in order to keep the band full of spirit and energy. The seniors in the 2025-2026 jazz band are trumpet players Bailey Holland, AJ Garcia, Jesus Rodriguez, Erick Rosales; tenor saxophonist Callie Morgan; and pianist Aiden Adams. The jazz band’s director is Russell Holland.
“I believe more people should join jazz band because there is very good music and they can learn a new instrument,” senior Jesus Rodriguez said. “The concert will bring us more recognition from the community.”
