Spring break peeks over the horizon, and Life Skills students ensure high schoolers can return home in style.
Life Skills students sold bracelets as part of their new ‘Bracelet Business’ in the cafeteria today for a dollar each. The funds will support their class and activities.
“We tried to think of something that wouldn’t take up too much time,” Life Skills teacher Christy Gillian said. “We’re not able to get out into the community as much as we’d like to, but hopefully this project will gain notice so we can find other job skills to practice.”

Each purchase helps participating students learn real-world job and money-handling skills, allowing them to practice financial literacy, entrepreneurship, responsibility, communication, and teamwork.
“It helps them interact with other students, and they enjoyed it,” paraprofessional Maria Salazar said. “We have a set goal of 200 bracelets sold, and our students have a choice of going to the movies or another activity with the money we earned once we reach it.”

Life Skills students created every bracelet, with some guidance in design, for weeks in advance. They sold over 80 units during first lunch alone.
“They get so excited anytime sports, band, or other Eagle teams are mentioned and want to help in some way,” Gillian said. “This way, they can contribute, and the community will have an opportunity to support us.”
