Three students have advanced from the region level and will compete in the ATSSB area competition this Saturday at Robinson.
“Competing at a high level forces students to work harder and hold themselves to a higher standard,” head band director Russell Holland said. “I wish we could get more people to work as hard as they do.”
The students competing in this competition are junior Robert Rodriguez on Bass Clarinet, junior Jack Bean on Bass Trombone, and senior Erick Rosales on Euphonium.
“I am very proud to have made it this far in ATSSB. I’ve worked hard throughout the year to grow as a euphonium player, and reaching Area feels like a meaningful accomplishment,” Rosales said. “The dedication put into this competition is immense and it makes me really confident that I have a really great chance at making State in ATSSB”
ATSSB stands for Association of Texas Small School Bands. The competition requires students to play two pieces and a set of scales, judged live against other area qualifying students.
“I feel pretty confident that I can make it now that I’m only going against 6 others instead of 30 like in Jazz region,” Bean said. “I feel proud of myself because the last two years I hadn’t made it.”
