The Grand Band will host their first ever Band Prom this Saturday.
“It will be a time where our students can enjoy music without being the ones playing, ” Drum Major Brooke Cobb said. “Being able to come together and celebrate our accomplishments with a dance will be a fun way to end the school year!”
The Band Prom, or “Brom,” will be themed after the Grammys, using colors of black, red, gold, and silver. A concession stand, run by the band boosters, will be present off the dance floor. DJs will be Jamie and Bailey Jones, twirling and flag sponsor and Junior high coach.
“I believe this event will begin a new tradition for our school, especially for our band students,” upcoming Drum Major Yahir Yepez said. “It will add on more to our already successful band program.”
The band is currently facing participation issues involving Brom, with less than half of the band planning to attend. To combat this, the setup crew suggested allowing band members to bring one non-band student each.
“We faced a lot of challenges trying to get people to participate and help out with the setup, but once we got a few people on board, everything kind of fell in the right place,” Cobb said. “I’m so excited to host this new event for our band! Can’t wait to see the turn out!”
The crew in charge of Brom consists of leadership members Dulse Chavez Baez, Rey Ramirez, Kimmaykay Rath, Aaryn Morgan, Erick Rosales, Brooke Cobb, Angie Cobb, Skylar Cook, Tevin Eam, Lily Allen, Haysten Kent, Zada Pjetrovic, Anna Allen, and Jordan McDaniel. They’ve ordered photo ops, created table decorations, and have plans to cover the walls of the entire band hall in a Grammy inspired paper design.
“I think the decorations set the mood of fun,” senior Rey Ramirez said. “Makes me wanna continue doing music!”
The Brom will take place from 7 pm to 11 pm at the band hall. Because of the Grammys theme, formal wear is not required, meaning band students can wear anything from ball gowns to cosplays, so long as they remain in dress code. 3D printed Grammys will be given out as Brom awards.
“I believe Brom benefits the band members from grades 9th- 12th,” senior and wall decoration organizer Angie Cobb said. “Giving them the opportunity to have a night of fun in appreciation for their hard work rewards the dedication they put into the band.”
