Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America or FCCLA. FCCLA is an organization that encourages individual and group participation in helping attain global collaboration and harmony. In a FCCLA competition, students compete in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.
Three FCCLA students will advance to state competition in Dallas on April 12 – 14. At Regional on February 23 and 24, 15 students medaled in their events. Junior Judary Ledezma earned a gold medal and will be advancing to state.
“I definitely did better than I thought,” Ledezma said. “It was the same as the other years so I was prepared.”
Junior Addison Bailes and junior Brooklyn Pilkington both had perfect scores, earning gold medals and will be advancing to state.
“I felt fine, I knew I made a 100 before I got my results,” Bailes said. “I wasn’t super nervous, and it was really fun because I got to try out a new outfit and have fun with my friends.”
Freshman Ayden Canizales, freshman Lauren Scott, and sophomore Zuleyka Portillo earned bronze medals.
“I thought it was a really good experience,” Portillo said. “It was my first year doing it. Overall I had a wonderful experience. At first I was nervous because I had to take a test but in the end it was all worth it.”
Sophomore Jenae Weathered, sophomore Dulse Chavez, senior Kaliyah Gasaway, Mika Tafolla, senior Cooper Craddick, Alyssa Kocher, sophomore Lyndsey Long, sophomore Ava Gann, and senior Eashan Kalyanji earned silver medals.
“This was the first time most of these students have competed in FCCLA,” sponsor Martha Holland said. “They did very well and I am proud of each of them for their hard work and dedication and can’t wait to see what they do in the future.”
