Voters will decide on Saturday, May 3, whether or not the Fairfield Independent School District Bond will pass. While many have participated in early voting over the last week, Saturday will be the last day to vote.
The amount proposed in the bond is $105,395,000 to build a new high school, make repairs on all campuses, and increase security across all campuses.
“Communities nearby doing similar projects are increasing their I&S Tax rate by 20 cents or higher,” FISD Superintendent Joe Craig said, “while ours is only one cent.”
The average home in Fairfield ISD ($205,484) should expect to see a monthly increase of 73 cents a month, which is $8.76 for the year. There is no increase for those 65 & older with homestead.
“The New Comprehensive High School,” Craig said, “is expected to include a new auditorium with a 40% increase in capacity, new band hall, bigger than our current [one], new Ag Science center, about 4 times as large as our current one, new Career and Technical Education (CTE) center that is expected include Cosmetology, Health Science, and have space for other future programs.”
The rebuilding of the high school is expected to include modern advancements and technology in the classrooms and all throughout the school.
“One of the main focuses of the bond is for the students and their education,” teacher Miss Wade said. “With the bond, supporters are hoping to improve the quality of their education and the facilities in which they would receive it.”
The new schools are expected to include many new facilities, with a focus on the many programs that FISD has to offer, such as Ag Science and Band, and the most recently offered courses, Cosmetology and Health Science.
“I think it’s going to be good because I could have a better school,” 5th grade Fairfield Intermediate student Ruby Bailes said. “I know what the high school looks like right now; it should be fixed and newer.”
