The Eagles will play their first game of the season against the Maypearl Panthers at the Eagle Stadium tomorrow starting at 7:30 p.m.
“This season our focus is on making the most of every opportunity we have,” assistant football coach Dalton Tharp said. “We’re using last year’s shortcomings as fuel to push us forward. It’s all about growth, effort, and staying committed to the process.”
Before this, the Eagles competed in two scrimmages: they played the Athens Hornets in Athens on August 15, and played the Bullard Panthers at the Eagle Stadium on August 21.
“The scrimmages were a great way of showing us how much we have improved,” senior Owynn Jordal said. “I feel fairly confident that our Fairfield Eagles could go to state this season, especially if we keep rolling with the punches and adjusting.”
This year’s varsity team consists of sophomores Braylan McMillian, Will Zachry; juniors Jeremiah Hudson, Davonte Alexander, Emmanuel Valles, Tylan Davis, Kyden Rodriguez, Kieran King, Zaylan McMillian, Kaden McCrory, Kyndal Tatum, Jaxon Acker, Michael Zachry; and seniors Jason Brackens, Finn Smith, Madden McElroy, Khamarion Ingram, Kavion Hicks, Armando Charles, Darion Weatherall, Connor Colvert, Landon Washington, Kohl Collins, Tate Lewis, Zechariah Smith, Kalil Appel, Owynn Jordal, Ashton Higgs, Mason Copeland, Ricky Castenada, Mason Edwards, Ayden Jones, Brayden Thornburg, and John Macke. Their head coach is John Bachtel, defensive coordinator is Joel Khuel, offensive coordinator is Jeremy Colvert, and the assistant coaches are Clint Zander, TJ McVey, Tyler Terry, Dalton Tharp, and Josh Stephenson.
“I feel real good about this team,” head coach John Bachtel said. “I like the way that the seniors are leading and the experience they have. Our goal is to make the playoffs and play on Thanksgiving.”
