As the girls’ basketball season came to a close, senior Josey Richardson, junior Braden Bossier, and freshman Breyunna Dowell were recognized for their contribution to the basketball team and for their talent on March 15.

“All of these girls made me extremely proud to be their coach this year, but not because of the number of wins they had,” girls’ basketball coach Sally Whitaker said. “I was proud of their selfless attitude and unrelenting desire to accomplish their goals together.”

Richardson played in the Texas Roundup last weekend, which is an All Star game that honors senior basketball players. Her sister played in the Texas Roundup five years ago.

“I wouldn’t have gotten selected for what I was selected for if it wasn’t for being surrounded by incredible teammates and an outstanding coach,” Richardson said. “Playing in the Texas Roundup was such an honor and I was very proud to have represented my town and school there.”

Dowell was named Super Centex Newcomer of the Year by the sports writers at the Waco Tribune Herald.

“I feel accomplished,” Dowell said. “I’m also excited because I’m a freshman and I know I will get better.”

The Waco Tribune Herald sports writers selected Bossier as part of the first Team Super Centex basketball team. She also played as one of five players in Region 3 named to the TABC All State Team.

“I really wasn’t expecting first team and I can’t thank coach Whitaker enough for putting in time to nominate us in,” Bossier said. “I just feel so honored to represent out team because without them, I wouldn’t even be nominated for all-state.”
