While the weather has caused the cancellation of several practices, those in spring sports continue to prepare for district competition.
The tennis teams will compete in the district meet on Thursday and Friday.
Franklin’s exit from the district caused the meet to relocate to Groesbeck. To qualify for region, a varsity player must either place first or second in their event.
“I do in fact think that I will have a greater chance of making it to region, since Franklin has been a tough opponent in the past years,” junior Austin Solis said. “Although Groesbeck has a nice tennis facility, I just don’t think they are compared to the visibility that we have at the Franklin facility.”
Senior Lydia Morgan has competed throughout high school and will attend her fourth district meet.
“I have a better shot this year because Franklin is no longer in our district,” Morgan said. “I think I had more confidence last year because I played doubles and had someone I could trust and depend on but Franklin being in a different district should help.”
Competing at varsity level are Lydia Morgan and Tiffany Jauregui in Girls Singles, Austin Solis and Yahir Yepez in Boys Singles, Joshua George/Addison Posey in Mixed Doubles, Emmie Hill/Suzune Awalt and Carolyn Dunlap/Brooklyn Helton in Girls Doubles, and Preston Scott/Mason Copeland and Anderson Cruce/Antonio Jauregui in Boys Doubles.
Competing at the JV level are Taylor Solis and Adalyn Peterson in Girls Singles and Avery Strait/Abigail Gallegos in Girls Doubles.
