The Fairfield Eagle football team has officially begun their season and will play their next game tomorrow against Mexia at Eagle Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
“I feel like we’re gonna do pretty good, and so far the guys have exceeded [my] expectations,” senior co-captain Justus Savage said. “I hope we go further than the first round.”
They played their first game of the season last Friday night against Maypearl High School. In the final quarter, both teams tied the game up, continuing it into overtime with a score of 34-34. The Eagles failed to make a touchdown or field goal during this period and lost 34-42.
“I thought the effort was outstanding,” Coach Childers said. “We made too many mistakes, and that’s what we’re going to be working on this week.”
Last year, the Eagles were selected to compete in the playoffs but did not advance past the first game.
