The Lady Eagles field fills with joy and sadness as the five varsity senior girls softball walk on the softball field for the last time to play their final home game ever. On April 16, 2024, the Lady Eagles played here against Elkhart, the last game on the home field for the seniors.
“The Seniors have come a long way since their freshman year,” head coach Josh Stephenson said. “They have really had to be the leaders the last two years because we did not have a senior on the team last year. This year I have been able to give them more responsibility and ownership in making this team their team. I would say Senior Night!! It was their last game on Don Posey Field and they came out on top with a run rule to help us in the playoff hunt.”
The Lady Eagles played at home and won against the Lady Elks 18-7. Their overall stats are 16-12. They went to playoffs and ended their season third in the district.
“As a senior on the softball team, it has truly been a rollercoaster of emotions,” senior Landry Bayless said. “Undertaking the role as a leader while trying to soak up every moment of the sport you love for the last time is definitely not easy. However, I am forever grateful to have been a part of such a great organization throughout the past four years and I will forever cherish every moment on and off the field with my teammates. By far, my favorite memory with my fellow seniors/juniors (I can’t forget Madelyn) is being a part of the “biggest birds.” This is the group of girls that have played softball together from early childhood to present day. Throughout our high school career, we have shared countless laughs and experienced memories that will last a lifetime. These ladies have truly been the best friends/teammates and have made my time in Fairfield Athletics very special.”
The senior Lady Eagles are Madox Mitchell, Averi Minze, Zadie McPherson, Kennedy Lane, and Landry Bayless.
“I feel as if the seniors on the team this year have really stepped up and been great leaders for the young girls, so being a senior I am honored that I get to help them learn and make memories,” Minze said. “The most memorable part of the season is definitely going out to eat before the games with the seniors, and the bus rides are always fun and great bonding time.”
