The Grand Band from Eagle Land have advanced in Region and will compete at the UIL Area Marching Competition in China Springs Saturday.
“I am so sad that this is my last one,” drum major senior Kaliyah Gasaway said. “I am so proud and confident in the band though.”
The band’s military marching style earned them a 1-1-2 at the UIL Region Marching Competition in Troy on October 18, 2023 under the direction of Russell Holland, Gust Witt, and Karla Sparks.
“I think this year is very good to get a good idea at what I’m supposed to be doing.” freshman Yahir Yepez said. “This will be a good learning opportunity for us newbies.”
The band must advance in two rounds at Area in order to qualify for State. With the help of drum majors: senior Emily Kent, senior Kaliyah Gasaway, and junior Zada Pjetrovic.
“I think that we will make finals when we compete,” twirler Morgan Roberson said. “We even have an advantage because we don’t use any electrical equipment.”
The band competes in a core band competition whilst they are a military band. Being a military band means that they focus on sharp turns and making optical illusions using the band members, all while having a powerful and full sound.
“Band as a whole is wonderful,” junior Caden Thibodeaux said. “The marching show is a little difficult, but it’s pretty fun.”
