50 people, including 5 teachers, donated blood or assisted with the blood drive sponsored by Student Council yesterday, collecting a total of 45 pints of blood. Every pint has the potential to save 3 lives.
Students 17 or older and students with the age of 16 with a parent signature could participate by donating blood.
“Before donating, students should drink water, have a good breakfast,” student council historian Jimiliyah Nash said, “and make sure they have their driver’s license or student ID with them.”
Students can earn a red cord when they graduate by donating at least twice their senior year.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 1.9 million people are diagnosed with cancer, many needing blood transfusions. The Red Cross national blood supply has fallen by about 25% and blood product distributions to hospitals are outpacing the number of blood donations coming in.
