Girls’ basketball will play their second to last district game tonight against Mexia starting at 5:00 p.m.

We want to try to play at a high level each game,” head varsity coach Sally Whitaker said. “We really try to focus on strengthening our weaknesses as a team.

They started their first district game on January 10 at Rusk. As of Jan. 31, they are 26-4 overall and 5-1 in district. Their last district game is Feb. 11 in Madisonville.

“We had 10 different players score in each district game so far,” Whitaker said. “Everyone understands that we can’t accomplish our main goal for this season unless we have a team-first mentality.”

Senior Kayelee Adams rolled her ankle twice and had tendons and ligaments torn. She was out for two weeks and has not played any district games yet.

“This is my first time to ever get hurt,” Adams said. “ I was really sad about not being able to play but I trust in my team and I know they can handle our district.”

Jv started their district games on January 14 against Palestine and won 47-43. Their overall season record is 13-10, 3-2 for district as of Jan. 31.

The girls are really coming along this year and they are developing really well,” head jv coach Tarsha Graves said. “I’m excited this season watching the girls learn and grow.”
