Jeanne Acton, Director of Journalism UIL, announced on August 6 that Brittani Oglesbee, Kaytlyn Brewer, and senior Anna Kaye Williams are part of the 2018 All-State Journalism Staff. Their leadership in scholastic journalism, along with their hard work and dedication, earned them each a position on the staff.

Brewer and Oglesbee, former Eagle Beat editor and editor in chief, graduated last year. Williams is currently editor in chief of the Eagle Beat school newspaper.

“I put a lot of time and effort into UIL last year,” Williams said. “I’m glad all my work paid off and am happy to have earned my place on the All-State staff.”

Students earn points by competing in UIL journalism events and ILPC contests. While any journalism student is eligible to compete for a position, requirements include completion of the application and a letter from an advisor in addition to the minimum number of points and awards.

“Since the honor is based on a point system, my student journalists publish and complete as often as possible; they work very hard,” newspaper adviser Kathie Maciel said. “I am thrilled to have 3 All-State Journalists this year.”
