Girls Powerlifting Headed to State over Spring Break

The Girl powerlifting team will be competing in the Frisco state competition on March 15-18. 

“I am extremely proud of all the girls that lifted at regionals, and am super excited to watch the girls that qualified for state because of how hard these girls work everyday, ” coach Tanner Tunstal said. “I feel like each girl has a chance to be really successful at state. Taylor Stone was an outstanding lifter for squat, bench press, and total on the light platform.”

In regionals Emma Jo Smith made 1st place with a total of 760 and 114 weight class and broke a regional record for squat with a 330 lb squat. Taylor Stone made 1st place with a total of 915 and 148 class. Danna Munoz made 1st with a total of 885 and 198 class. Kalli Richardson tied for 1st place with a total of 1010 and 220 class. Destiny Dowell made 1st with a total 1020 and 259+ class.

The boys powerlifting team will compete in the West regional competition on March 11.

“The boys have been working extremely hard over the past couple of weeks getting ready for the regional meet,” Tunstall said. “I believe that these boys are setting themselves up to have a great day at regionals.”
