The Eagle golf teams will be headed to Teague on March 20 for their third tournament of the season. Teams recently competed at the Athens tournament this past Monday.

“I try and individualize motivation for each player,” two year Coach Kris Ballew said. “Each player’s feedback is unique so I try to give them positive reinforcement if they hit a good shot or we might laugh off an absolutely terrible shot.”

Players are preparing for the upcoming district tournament by going to tournaments. The top two boy golfers from the week before are taken to compete. This week, senior Dalton McQuinn and sophomore Chandler Philips competed alongside junior Allie Hughes and sophomore Zada Pjetrovic.

“My goal for this season is to get lower scores each tournament and of course have fun while doing it,” Pjetrovic said. “I usually go out the day before a tournament and practice as much as I can to where I feel comfortable and confident”

Hughes placed third in Athens. She competed last year at the UIL golf tournament in Austin, Texas. Hughes placed 31 out of 72 players and finished with a total score of 185.00. Hughes also placed 5th in the first tournament of the season in Bosqueville.

“We look to improve our score each week.” Ballew said. “[Players] are also looking to improve one area of their game that they might have struggled at an earlier tournament.”
