The JV and Varsity baseball teams will play the last of three games of the Franklin tournament on March 11 against Lampasas at 12:30.

In the first two games of the tournament, both on Thursday, the Eagles won against Caldwell with a score of 13-0 and lost to New Waverly 6-9.

“They pitched outstanding, only giving up 1 hit,”  head coach Andrew Downing said. “The boys have been playing pretty well right now. Struggling with too many errors and walking too many opposing players. But other than that, playing baseball on a high level.”

On March 7th they played Mexia in a district game and won 9-3 making 1st in district. The starting pitcher was Cameroon Cockerell.

“I think that the team played well last night at the district game,” coach and assistant principal Rick Frauenberger said. “Ending the game with Cameroon Cockrell pitching and Rowdy Hand as the catcher, they finished the game in one hit.”

This year is the first year that Frauenberger has coached baseball for the eagles. The Franklin tournament will be his 2nd tournament as coach. He has coached for other schools and is qualified to coach anything.

“I have spent my whole life surrounded by baseball, and I’m excited that he’s back to coaching, ” Frauenberger said. “Due to being short staffed I was able to start coaching again. I believe that sometimes I can’t pull off being an assistant coach and a baseball coach but I’m able to manage both somehow.
