“The Star” is an adorable children’s Christmas movie about the birth of Jesus Christ. Even my easily bored baby cousins love this movie. It takes a more light-hearted tone on the classic story from the Bible, while still maintaining correct theology.

“The Star” is a highly enjoyable movie for everyone in my family, from the youngest little baby to the oldest Pawpaw. The story follows a work donkey named Bo, played by Steven Yeun, who is adopted into the family of Mary and Joseph. Mary and Joseph, played by Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi, have to deal with very real problems, like explaining Mary’s pregnancy outside of the marriage, Joseph’s inner conflict about fathering a child that is not his, and how to find faith in difficult situations. This movie features a star-studded cast, including Oprah Winfrey, Zachary Levi, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Tracey Morgan, Tyler Perry, Gabriel Iglesas and Anthony Anderson. Oprah Winfrey hosts a talk show, Zachary Levi is in “Shazam” and Disney’s “Tangled,” and Kelly Clarkson is a very popular singer. Mariah Carey is also a very popular singer, Tracey Morgan is in a ton of comedies, Tyler Perry has starred in too many hit shows to count, Gabriel Iglesas is a hilarious comedian, and Anthony Anderson is a comedian and game show host. All of these celebrities and more bring this Bible tale to life for kids and adults alike.

This movie is a favorite at my family’s gatherings, and everyone always loves it. The kids love it for its gorgeous animation and hilarious characters and storytelling, and the adults love it for its biblically accurate retelling of the classic story of Christmas.

“The Star” is available to view on Spectrum TV, Prime Video, Vudu,  Redbox, or Apple TV.
