Season ends with boys in fourth in district; girls in ninth in region

Fairfield held the district cross country meet On Tuesday October 12, 2021 . The girls team placed second overall behind Franklin. The boys team placed 4th in district.

¨It was awesome to go back to regionals,¨ head coach Mrs. Graves said. ¨Out of my five years of coaching here, we’ve been every year.¨ 

 The seven runners for the girls advanced to the regional meet on October 26, 2021 in Huntsville, Texas. The girls placed ninth as a team at regions.

¨I am proud of my team even though we didn’t make it to state,¨ sophomore Madox Mitchael said. ¨I know how hard we work, and I know everyone tried their best.¨

At district Madox Mitchael defended her first place district title. Madox said that to achieve this goal she changed her diet and ran extra miles after school. At the area meet she got 12th place, which is just two spots away from qualifying for the state meet.

“I’ve learned that if you have a strong mentality that you are capable of achieving anything,” senior Nicolas Salazar said, “With a lot of preparation and hard work, your goals will be met.”

Nicolas Salazar and Leon Rosales were the two seniors on the boys team. They have both been doing cross country since junior high and this was their first year not qualifying for region.
