Students and staff members at the school are practicing COVID-19 safety at the start of the semester by social distancing, wearing masks, and keeping hands and supplies clean.

As of now, there are 380 in-person learners and 112 virtual learners, with a total of 492 students. Students who are absent from school for any reason can check in online with their second period teacher and be counted present for the day, as long as they complete their online work for the day.

“We would rather err on the side of caution and safety,” vice principal Rick Frauenberger said. “Administration and everybody involved is trying to take every precaution to keep our students as safe as possible. We want to stay in school and more importantly, stay healthy.”

Students must wear face masks at all required times, use the hand sanitizer provided, and get tested when showing any symptoms of the virus. Students are also required to social distance during lunch and break periods, or otherwise keep their face coverings on.

“It feels so weird to be so far apart at lunch,” junior Ashleigh Harris said. “I’m used to being bunched up in the cafeteria.”

For social distancing purposes, pep rallies are held on the football field every Friday, unless it rains. Pep rallies will be cancelled on rainy days.

“Make sure you keep your mask on and spread out,” said Sharon Large. “If we don’t, we won’t be allowed to have anymore pep rallies.”

There have been a few cases of COVID-19 exposure among the varsity football team. Many of the players are currently quarantining themselves and a handful of them are waiting on test results. There are no confirmed cases on campus at this time.

“There’s like three or four boys that may have been exposed,” junior Kelton Carlson said. “They’re cancelling this week’s game and making them quarantine until we know for sure. Hopefully, the whole season isn’t cancelled.”

There are no positive test results as of now. It is confirmed that the Brownsboro football game for tonight is cancelled; the rest of the season is scheduled to continue.
