Boys’ varsity basketball will play Mexia here tonight at 7:30 p.m. They have three district games left against Madisonville, Rusk, and Palestine to wrap up the season. They currently have a district record of 3-1.

¨Coming into the season we didn’t have a lot of varsity experience,¨ head coach Cannon Earp said. ¨It’s taken a little while to figure out who we are and what works best for us. But I think we are moving in the right direction.¨

In district, boys play each school twice and picked up a non-district game on their bye week against Aggieland HomeSchool.

“As the trainer and manager of these talented, outgoing, energetic boys,” senior team manager Jaylon Strawther said, “I enjoy every moment and make each gameday unforgettable.”

Out of the five teams in district, four will advance to playoffs. Out of those teams, the best ones make it to the regional tournament.

¨I think the district is wide open,¨ Earp said. ¨There will be zero off nights where we can get away with not playing well. We definitely have a chance to make the playoffs if we keep getting better every day.¨

Boys started district with a loss to Mexia with a score of 60-31. However, they won their games against Madisonville and Rusk with scores of 70-55 and 57-42 respectively. They also beat Palestine with the final score of 55-52.

“We’re working and we’re definitely getting better,” senior Justin Abram said. “Our team took a tough loss against Mexia but we’ve bounced back. We’re ready to compete with the rest of the district.”
