FCCLA will go to the regional meet Friday, February 14 at the Waco Convention center.

FCCLA is shaping to be a good year,” junior Robby Walia said. “I have personally seen people place countless hours into their events and it’s amazing to see. I believe we are ready for this year’s region and state.

FCCLA has 46 members this year, all of which will be competing in Family and Consumer Sciences Assessments at the meet. Eight members will also compete in STAR Events (Entrepreneurship, Career Investigation, Focus on the Children, Repurpose and Redesign).

FCCLA is always an enjoyable time when we go to compete,” junior Ricardo Balderas said. “It’s a great chance to go out and meet other kids from other schools.

Testers compete against individuals from other schools and can receive a gold medal after scoring above 90 which allows them to advance to state and have the opportunity to compete at a national level. Whereas, STAR participants compete with projects against teams and or individuals from different schools and the top-scoring competitors move on to state.

“FCCLA is a big part of my life right now,” junior Blain Tucker said. “ It teaches good skills and is always fun to go to.”

This year’s Starr Participants include juniors Robby Walia and Colt Hardwick individually in Career Investigation, junior Meredith Awalt in Recycle and Redesign, Tucker and junior Lauren Cochran as a team in Entrepreneurship, seniors Tylie Bruce, Sarah McHenry, and Cristal Reyes as a team in Focus on the Children.

“This is my first time participating in a Star event,” Hardwick said. ”Although I’m nervous I’m hoping I’ll get to advance this year.”
