Cross Country Prepares for Mud Run

The Eagles Cross Country team will compete in the Mud, Sweat and Cheers Relay this Saturday at the Top Tier Training Camp in Caldwell, Tx. This will be the teams’ first time to compete in this race as well as their first race of the season.

“Last year the race got rained out because of Hurricane Harvey,” senior, Ashlyn Partain said. “I am surprisingly sad that I am going to miss this race because we have a volleyball tournament this weekend so I won’t ever get to run it.”

The team will run through muddy obstacles in a relay formation in mile and a half intervals. Seniors Madison Smith and Ashlyn Partain will not be present for the meet, so the majority of the Lady Eagles team will be underclassmen.

“Thanks to our senior leaders, this year we have started off the season on a more positive note than we have in previous years,” sophomore Erica McQuinn said. “ I am ready to kick off the season with this fun run.”

The hosts, College Station High School, and other larger schools will be competing against the Eagles. The Eagles will travel an hour and 45 minutes, making this the second furthest meet they will compete in this season. The State Meet in Round Rock, Tx is the furthest.

“ I can’t wait to see how our teams do this weekend at the Mud, Sweat and Cheers Relay,” Coach Graves said. “ Even though we have to get up extra early to make that long trip for all this excitement, I’m still pretty stoked because it is Morgan’s birthday too!”

The Eagles recently held their 8th Annual Copperhead 5k run on August 18th. The proceeds they raised from the fun run will contribute to any expenses the team will have throughout the season.
