The Lady Eagle softball program will play in the annual San Marcos Rattler Spring Break Classic on March 9 and 10at the San Marcos athletic complex. The baseball team will also play in the Franklin tournament in Franklin on March 8 through the 10.
“Baseball has always been something I really look forward to,” junior Blake Posey said. “I’m extremely excited to see what all we can accomplish this year, both individually and as a team.”
The Lady Eagles competed in the Franklin tournament on March 2 and 3.They were able to achieve third place and improve as a team.
“The Franklin tournament is something that we have done as long as I have been here,” senior Abby Garcia said. “Even though I have competed in it so many times before, it never gets old and I always really enjoy it.”
The Baseball and Softball teams have been limited in their practices and games because of the recent extensive rainfall. They have, however, fit as much as possible into this 2018 season.
“It’s a long season,” junior Avery Archibald said. “And although we have been off to a bit of a rough start, it’s still just the beginning.”
The softball team has been victorious since their first game against Whitney on Feb. 13.
“Our team this year has already proven to be willing to step up to the challenge of softball,” sophomore Margo Measles said. “There are a lot of really great teams out there, but judging by the way we work together, I can see us going really far.”
The baseball team has also been victorious since their first victory against Westwood on Feb. 19.
“There is no question that Fairfield baseball has struggled the past few years,” senior Garridan Henderson said. “But because of the effort we put into improvement, now it’s our time to shine.”
The softball program is going into this season with the assurance of three consecutive district championships. According to sophomore Bailey Jones, they are hopeful and confident that three will soon turn into four.
“I really believe that this is the best team we’ve had,” Jones said. “Based on what I have seen so far and the teams we have defeated, this season is definitely going to be one to remember.”
The Lady Eagles lost only three seniors last year and have high hopes for the upcoming season.
“The seniors we lost last year were key to our team,” senior Banner Monico said. “But we have had a lot of people step up to the plate and become great leaders.”
The Eagles baseball program lost six seniors last year, but they have plenty of players that could potentially fill their shoes.”
“I really feel like everyone is excited about playing, and we all have a positive outlook on this year’s season,” senior Miller Smith said. “If everybody can perfect their game and come together as a unit starting now, by the time the season is over we will have done really well.”
