As April is just getting started, twirling and flag try-outs are beginning again in order to prepare for next fall.
The girls trying out were introduced to the try-out routine on April 2 and will try out for their positions today after school.
“I always have mixed emotions for tryouts,” twirling and flag sponsor Jami Jones said. “It’s exciting to see who will make up the next year’s lines, but I get so nervous for all the kids trying out.”
The girls who are trying out have been practicing with fundamentals and the routine itself. They have had the help of twirling expert and sponsor Jami Jones and former flag captain Kiera Walker. Jami has been the twirling sponsor for the last 16 years and the flag sponsor for four years.
“If I don’t make captain, that will be fine,” sophomore Lauren Scott said. “ I’m just excited to twirl with everyone again.”
The girls compete for a spot on the line; however, the number of girls that the judges take varies every year. Some years they may take 10 to 11 girls other times they may take four to eight girls
“I’m excited,” freshman Davie Pickens said. “I’m just ready for try-outs to be over.”
The tryout music is to the song “Hey Baby” by Bruce Channel.
“I’m scared,” eighth grader Naomi Owen said, “but I also feel like I’m prepared and I have the ability to make it.”
After the girls have gone into the room in their groups that they tryout in they will leave the Band Hall and wait patiently for their results. The results will be posted on the Fairfield High School Facebook page, and will hopefully be posted before the next day.
