Select band students will compete in the ATSSB All-Region Jazz competition tomorrow at Groesbeck High School. Those who place will be added to a area-wide band of high school musicians.
“I’ve never tried out for the jazz region before,” junior trumpet player Aiden Adams said, “but I’ve heard that the competition is really good. I think the competition will go well. I’ve been practicing since the music was released and I know everyone has practiced a lot as well, so It’s all up to the auditions and fate as of now.”
The following students are competing: Brooke Cobb, Angelina Cobb, Bailey Holland, Erick Rosales, Yahir Yepes, Benjamin Killkenny, Jack Bean, Jerry Draper, RaeAnne Rossiasky, Casey Couture, Anderson Cruce, Daniel Bonner, Aiden Adams, Skylar Cook, Tevin Eam, Antonio Jauregui, Aaryn Morgan, Callie Morgan, and Bryanna Willis.
“I’m not as nervous as I usually am for competitions,” Brooke Cobb said, “I know I have practiced my hardest and did my part. I’m confident that my directors have prepared me well enough to do my best. I’m so excited to make all of that work pay off.”
Students must play their competition music with the recorded version. Results for the competition are posted within 12 hours of its completion.
“I love the jazz competition,” Kilkenny said. “It is probably my second favorite band UIL we do as we get to play with a recording. I would be more excited and confident if I had practiced more, but hindsight is 20/20.”
