The Fairfield High School golf team competes at district in Teague on March 25 and April 1.
“We are looking forward to the district tournament this year,” golf coach Kris Ballew said. “We had a good showing this week at the Teague tournament, which included most teams from our district. We are expecting to compete for possibly a district title on both the boys and girls teams.”
The Lady Eagles placed first at the Teague Invitational Tournament on March 18. Allie Hughes placed first individually.
“I am very excited for the golf tournament, I am looking forward to it,” senior Allie Hughes said. “[The team] has improved very much throughout this season, and I am very excited to have them! They have grown as players, and they have shown their dedication to get better!”
The Eagles placed second as a team in the tournament with Dio Azuara placing second individually.
“The boys have really impressed at every tournament,” Ballew said. “We have shown the capability to win each week.”
The girls team, consisting of members Allie Hughes, Zada Pjetrovic, Addison Shipley, Hadassah Owen, Cariss Capps, and Addison Bailes(medalist), has finished 1st or 2nd in many of this year’s invitational tournaments.
“The girls have shown drastic improvement each week,” Ballew said, “and are hoping to have some consistency during our district tournament.”
There are many boys playing this year separated into two teams. The boys first team consists of Cade Nelson, Chandler Phillips, Dio Azuara, Jake White, and Brayden Thornburg. The boys second team consists of Ayden Jones, Mason Edwards, Eli Owen, Tracey Johnson, Laiken Carlson, and Cabastion Cargill(medalist). The boys team has also finished 1st or 2nd in 3 of their four tournaments.
