Having started their district seasons, Lady Eagles Softball will go to Teague Friday to take on the Lions, and Eagles Baseball will play in the Franklin tournament this Thursday and Friday
Baseball, under head coach is Drew Downing and assistant coach is Rick Frauenburger, won their first district game and first home game against Mexia Blackcats last night at 7:00 p.m. The team has a record of 8-1 in the pre-district games.
“I feel great about the start of the district and think the team performed well and worked together well,” senior pitcher and shortstop Cameron Cockerell said. “There was never a moment when people got down. It was just a group of guys doing something they love to do, and that’s a great thing to see. Also a great thing to be a part of.”
On that same night, the softball girls, under head coach Josh Stevenson and assistant coaches Sally Whitaker and Denis Johnson, also played their first district game and their third home game at 7:00 p.m. against the Mexia Lady Blackcats. The team has a record of 5-2 in the pre-district games.
“I feel like everyone played really well, the energy was there and was so positive,” senior catcher Zadie McPherson said. “We all worked together as a family.”
The boys are 1-0 in district after a score of 7 to 1, Eagles over Mexia.
“I feel like we have started on a strong note,” junior center field Calyn Wilson said.
The girls also won with a score of 15 to 0 Lady Eagles and are 1-0 in district.
“I feel like this year could be a very good season for us,” sophomore Delaney McGowan said, “if we keep putting in the work.”
