A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, published in 2019, will be turned into a movie in late 2025. Filming started in 2023.
The main character of the book Pippa Fitz-Amobi was given a capstone project that she could pick whatever she wanted to write about. Five years prior there was a murder/suicide a high school girl Andie Bell and a high school boy Sal Sighn. The town believes that Ravi killed Andie and then killed himself, However Pippa believes otherwise. Pippa started out her project with trying to prove his innocence. When she was little she used to hang around Sal with her best friend’s older sister. Pippa looked up to him. Sal was kind and patient; she couldn’t accept that he was capable of murder. Pippa and Sal’s brother Ravi Sighn set out to try and clear his brothers name, However there was much more to the story then people were saying.
At the beginning of the book Pippa was trying to find out the facts of the night of the murder as she finds out more and more someone is trying to get her to stop. Pippa is getting threatening letters in her school locker, on her computer, and through text messages. She doesn’t think anything of it because she is too close to finding out who did it. She and Ravi break into the Bell’s house to look around Andie’s bedroom that hasn’t been touched since she went missing. When they are there Andies little sister comes and and they almost get caught. Later Pippa finds out that Andie and her sister Becca had a lot of tension growing up. Pippa believes that Becca did it, but then after a walk in the park Pippa’s beloved dog disappears. There are many surprises before the reveal.
I really enjoyed this book. There were a lot of twists and turns that kept you interested in the book. It was never dull and I never lost interest in it like I’ve done with other books before. It was a fast read, taking only a couple of days. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who is a reader.
