High school students met under the flagpole for prayer on September 27. That same evening, at 6:00 p.m., they joined at the Lee Hays Soccer Field for food and games. See You at the Pole is a national event which FHS students have participated in for several years.
“I think it’s good for students to see other fellow believers,” youth minister David Skinner said. “It’s good and encouraging for them to see that they are not alone.”
This tradition is completely a student and community-led event.
“We love our kids and the community,” Round Prairie member Leon Thomas said. “We always want to come together for See You at the Pole and get everyone together and celebrate.”
Pizza from Pizza Hut was served and the games consisted of soccer, 9 Square in the Air, and a bounce house.
“I see students more comfortable than they usually are during the school day,” junior Jerry Draper said. “They’re more open to talk about how they are feeling because they are out here having fun.”
The churches involved were Round Prairie, First Baptist, and Calvary Baptist Church.
“Saw You at the Pole was more fun than I thought,” senior Deyla Morgan said. “I wanted the opportunity to share in the fellowship with my brothers and sister.”
