Johnson Places First in State Powerlifting

Three boys advanced past region and traveled to the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene, Texas on March 26. 

“I am so proud of my boys and all that they have accomplished,” Coach Childers said.

Senior Hayden Braswell placed 8th in the 165lbs weight class. His final lifts were 510lbs for squat, 330lbs for bench press, and 515lbs for deadlift all adding up to a total of 1,355lbs.

“I am glad I made it this far on my last go around,” Braswell said.

Junior Treyden Johnson placed first in the SHW class. His final lifts were 750lbs for squat, 360lbs for bench press, and 590lbs for deadlift which all came to a total of 1,700lbs. 

“It feels good to be a state champion and I am so proud of the boys there with me,” Johnson said.

Sophomore Braiden Barrett got 14th in the 198lbs weight class. His final lifts were 600lbs for squat, 355lbs for bench press, and 530lbs for deadlift with his total weight being 1,485lbs.

“I can’t wait until next season,” Barrett said. 

The team together got 14th place overall with 7 points and a 815.66lbs average. The coaches were Kevin Childers, Taner Tonstil, and athletic director John Bachtel.
