Cross Country to Travel to McGregor Saturday

The cross country team will compete at the McGregor Invitational on September 11 to prepare for their district meet in October. In the following two meets they will compete in Huntsville and at McNeil High School in Round Rock.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the Round Rock meet,” freshman Logan Campbell said. “It’s definitely hard work.”

The girls won sixth place overall in their first meet of the season in Temple at the Temple Profit Invitational and the boys finished 8th.

What I’m looking forward to most this season is our overnight trip to McNeil,” sophomore Emma Jo Smith said. “I’m excited to run and to just have fun.”

The team traveled to Nacogdoches last Saturday, and the girls earned 3rd place. The boys finished 5th place, marking their highest ranking to date at the Lumberjack Invitational. Fairfield earned fifth overall.

I’m looking forward to the growth of the team and how the athletes from last year develop to this year,” coach Tarsha Graves said. “We have high expectations for the teams. They’ve made lots of personal goals for themselves.”

The girls’ contest is two miles, and the boys’ is three. Cross country runners begin practice every day before school at 6:00 a.m. and run four miles during practice to prepare.
