The Lady Eagles will play in the Girls 3A UIL Region III State Semi-Finals against the Bishop Lady Badgers tomorrow at 2:00 pm at the Delmar Fieldhouse in Houston, TX.  This next round follows their win against Lexington 65-29 Mar 2 at Bryan High school.

I am so proud of the girls for being so determined to get back to the State tournament again,” Head Coach Sally Whitaker said. “It’s a little different this year since we have to win the semi final game before we can go to San Antonio, but it is still a great accomplishment and incredibly exciting for the community.

Almost a year ago the girls basketball team won the 4A State Championship title, making headlines and school history.

I know the feeling of winning, and I would love to experience that again. Not only for myself, but for my teammates, coaches, and community,” junior Emori Davis said. “It’s very surreal. You always dream of going to state, but when it actually happens you don’t know how to react.”

The girls played against Huntington Feb 27 in the Regional Semifinals with a score of 72-25. In the Regional Semifinals, Lexington won against Pollok Central scoring 57-42.

“I feel like we win when we all work together. Win or lose I’m still gonna have a positive attitude and move on to the next game” sophomore Shadasia Brackens said. “I feel great about playing in state again, and I am ready to have fun. Basketball excites me when I make good plays, and score and it’s crazy how I can almost dunk.”

If girls will move on to the State Semifinals, there is a chance they will play Brownfield or Ponder.

Honestly, I really appreciate this opportunity,” senior Te’Yalla Simpson said. “It’s not often that you get to attend the State Tournament Two years in a row.”

In the Regional finals Mar 1 and 2, Brownfield won against Shallowater scoring 50-45. Also, Ponder won against Gunter with a score of 42-29.

This group of girls is special,” Whitaker said, “and I can’t wait to see them play again in San Antonio. I think the girls are ready.”
