FFA Advances to Area Contests
December 9, 2019
From stock shows to public speaking, from leadership events to lively meetings, from early morning feedings to late night preparing, FFA members put their heart, sweat, and tears into every event. This year FFA will continue their annual streak of going far in fairs, competitions, and events.
FFA competed in 12 different competitions at TVCC in Athens November 15. Six teams advanced to area and will compete in Robinson November 23.
“I feel like the District LDE competition went awesome,” junior Emily Chavers said. “Our FFA chapter really showed up and showed out, and winning sweepstakes was super cool. I am so proud of our chapter, we have worked very hard and came very far and we are all so ready to see what the next competition has in store.”
Juniors Emily Chavers, Kendal Crawford, Savannah Ellis and Frankie Nelson advanced in Public Relations. Freshman Ellie Grissett advanced in Greenhand Creed, and sophomore Ally Robinson advanced in Senior Creed. Freshmen Jacey Jones, Wyatt Burts, Noah Wilson advanced in Jr. Skills. In Jr. Quiz, freshmen Ava Thompson, Riley Ralstin, Kolby Adams, and Monty Morgan, and in Sr. Quiz juniors Madison Thailer, Frankie Nelson, seniors Lex Thompson, and Lyndi Wilson advanced.
“I felt so excited and proud to be a part of this team,” junior Savannah Ellis said. “we worked really hard and we had a goal to make it to the area competition and we achieved it!”
FFA will continue their themed meetings on December 3. The meeting will have a Christmas theme.
“We’re trying a lot of new things this year so we can try and increase member participation.” FFA Treasurer Frankie Nelson said. “We’re using more social media to advertise for our meetings and we’re adding more fun things to do. So far, our attendance to meetings has drastically increased, so it must be working!”
Ag classes also had fruit and meat sales through through November. FFA uses these fruit and meat sales as a fundraiser.
“Fairfield FFA has a great tradition of being successful in our LDE Contest,” agriculture teacher Daniel Phillips said. “I truly believe this year will be no different. The students are training hard and have another district title in their sights.”
Robinson also competed in speaking at the State Fair of Texas, winning her division of 35 people and placing top 9 overall.
“I’ve already had many opportunities to speak this year and I’ve been honored to do well at the competitions,” Robinson said. “I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.”
