Lady Eagles Start Basketball Season
November 8, 2019
Girls’ basketball will open their season with a scrimmage against China Spring tomorrow and will have their first basketball game on November 12 against Athens starting at 5:00 pm.
“I am excited to get the season started,” girls’ basketball coach Sally Whitaker said. “We have a talented group of girls to work with, and the expectations are high this year.”
There are 11 varsity players this year. The team lost one senior and gained two new varsity players. Whitaker said she credits alumni Josey Richardson for some of their success.
“This year, we have a strong group of seniors who will be ready to fill that important leadership role,” Whitaker said. “It’s always a positive thing to have 9 returning letterman”
The nine returning Lady Eagles are seniors Jada Clark, Kayelee Adams, Belle Johnson, Braden Bossier, Anayiah Larkin, junior Teyalla Simpson, sophomores Emori Davis, Jarahle Daniels, and Breyunna Dowell.
“I am very excited because last year taught me a lot even though it was just a little time, it still taught me a lot,” Larkin said. “This year I’m looking forward to getting close or even just making it to state.”
This year will be Larkin’s first full year on varsity. Freshman McKinna Brackens is a new varsity player along with junior Essence Watkins.
“I think this year’s team is ready to set a new standard for Lady Eagle Basketball,” Whitaker said. “Our goals are probably similar to most other teams, win district and win the Regional Tournament.”
