Too Late to Get GOT?

Erin Rachel, Staff Reporter

The hit HBO show Game Of Thrones returned on April 14 with the first episode of its final season.  The show has aired since 2011 and has over 15 million viewers. This series, based off the books “A Song of Ice and Fire”, has taken control of the internet and captivated many television screens worldwide. The hype around the final season has caused more people to consider watching the series.

This is what you should know before you consider watching the enticing, gory, and controversial world of Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones tells the story of different family lines fighting for the Iron Throne. The King/Queen rules over all Seven Kingdoms presented in the series. From the first season the show reveals a storyline including incest, illegitimate children, and beheadings. These topics add a shock factor to the show but also leave readers with uneasy feelings. Controversy and gore is what turns most people away from this show. Violence is a constant on the show and an episode without death is rare. The battle sequences do not censor anything so if you are faint of heart I would strongly suggest not watching the series. Another uncomfortable aspect of the show is the nudity and uncensored adult material throughout the show. Immature audiences would not be able to handle the show and the intensity that comes with it.

People love this show because of the characters dynamics and the fantasy figures that it presents. Characters are constantly changing character and the vast differences in morals and humanity adds a variety to the show. You can never underestimate or overestimate someone because they constantly surprise you. Character growth is a consistency within the series, while some characters remain vile or honorable others can change from evil to good or vice versa. The downside, however, is that you never know when a character will be killed off. Fire breathing dragons  and undead white walkers add a fictional side to the story. Although audiences know there are no such thing as zombies and dragons, they buy into the alternate reality of the Westeros (the realm).

Game of Thrones is not for the faint of heart or those uncomfortable watching unsettling scenes. It’s a gory story full of plot twists and death that will captivate you into its reality. It is an amazing show deserving of its fame but comes with some major heartache and headaches. So if you choose to start this series, know that you have been warned.
